Allergies Symptoms, Diagnosis, Treatment & Management

Allergy

Allergy happens when a person responds to chemicals that are harmless to other people in the environment. These compounds are referred to as allergens and are present in dust mites, livestock, pollen, insects, molds, ticks, food, and some medicines. Allergy includes an overstated reaction of the immune system, often to natural substances such as food, or pollen. This is a very complex system that usually protects the body against foreign attackers such as bacteria, viruses, while also examining irregular changes in an individual’s cells. We have Primary Care & Internal Medicine, Seabrook, TX and you can visit us for the treatment of your disease.

Types of allergies

There are different types of allergies. Some of them are discussed below:

Drugs Allergy

Real drug allergy (medicines) exists in just a limited number of individuals. Most of the drug reactions are actually not allergic, but have side effects of the pharmaceutical product’s properties.

Insect Allergy

The most common harsh insects that become the cause of allergic reactions are wasps, yellow jackets, bees and fire ants. Some non-stinging insects like dust mite and cockroaches may also become the cause of allergic reactions.

Mold Allergy

Fungi are mold and mildew. Since fungi are growing in so many areas, both inside and outside of the houses, allergic reactions may occur all year round.

Pet Allergy

Allergies to fur pets are popular. It is very important to note that there is no allergy-free (hypoallergenic) dog or cat’s breed.

Pollen Allergy

Pollen is a most common cause of seasonal allergy. Many people recognize the pollen allergy as “hay fever,” but doctors generally refer to it as “seasonal allergic rhinitis.”

Causes of Allergies

Allergens fix antibodies formed by the body when allergic reactions happen, and it is called immunoglobin E (IgE). Antibodies battle foreign and potentially harmful elements in the body. When an allergen fixes to IgE, various types of cells; includes mast cells release chemicals that can cause the symptoms of an allergic reaction. Histamine is one of those compounds. This chemical may become the cause to close up the blood vessels’ walls and muscles in the airways. It also instructs the nose liner to create more mucus.

Symptoms

Allergic reactions normally cause symptoms in the throat, nose, ears, lungs, stomach, or maybe on the skin. In some people, allergies may also cause symptoms of asthma.

Some other most common symptoms of allergy include:

  • Food: Signs which show the food allergy are diarrhea, vomiting, shortness of breath, etc.
  • Insects: Signs include cough, itching on the skin, dizziness, tightness of chest, etc.
  • Dust: Some signs which show the dust allergy are blocked nose, itching in nose and eye, cough, and swelling in eyes.
  • Drugs
  • Mold
  • Latex

Diagnosis

If you or any family member has symptoms of any type of allergy, you should go to the allergist. Allergists get the advanced training to diagnose and to start the treatment of an allergic patient and they can make a better management plan for an allergic patient to help in healthy living.
